NEW PRODUCT ANNOUNCEMENT

MIXED SIGNAL INTEGRATION Combines Six Filters Into An 8 Pin Package

SAN JOSE, California, August 4, 2000---Drawing on over 20 years of experience with switched capacitor design, Mixed Signal Integration today announced a Selectable Highpass/Notch Filter IC that has six different filter responses. The device can be configured for eight pole Butterworth, seven pole Elliptic or eight pole Bessel high pass responses or deep, narrow or wide notch responses. The IC runs from a supply voltage of 2.7 to 5.5 V.

The MSHN1, MSHN2 and MSHN5 will operate at center frequencies up to 20 kHz while drawing 1 mA typical supply current. The MSHN3, MSHN4 and MSHN6 work to 5 kHz with only 200 uA typical supply current. These power consumption figures are much lower than previously available. The MSHN1, MSHN3, MSHN5 and MSHN6 offer all six filter responses even though they are packaged in a space saving 8 pin DIP. They have a single input, unity gain, and a fixed clock to corner ratio. The MSHN1 and MSHN3 have a 100:1 clock to corner ratio. The MSHN5 and MSHN6 have a 1000:1 clock to corner ratio. The MSHN2 and MSHN4 are 16 pin versions that include all 6 responses, a four input multiplexor, externally selectable gain setting pin, power down function and a clock to corner ratio select. Gain can be selected from 0, 10 or 20 dB. The clock to corner ratio can be either 100:1 or 1000:1.

The devices use a switched-capacitor filter design that reduces the need for external components. Only decoupling capacitors and an external CMOS level clock are required.

The MSHN1-6 can be applied in a range of data communications, wireless, telephony, portable and general purpose systems. By using one of the MSHN1-6 family for pre-filtering a codec, a slower DSP may be used, saving power and cost. Combined with one of MSI's MSFS1-6 family of part, wide band pass filters can be generated. They can also be employed as tracking filters, for harmonic, noise and audio analysis, instrumentation or in spectrum analyzers.

The MSHN1P is available in an 8 pin plastic DIP package for $2.75 in 1000 piece quantities. The MSHN2P is available in a 16 pin plastic DIP package for $3.50 in 1000 piece quantities. The MSHN3P, MSHN5P and MSHN6P come in an 8 pin plastic DIP. The MSHN4P is in a 16 pin plastic DIP. The MSHN1-6 are also available in 150 and 300 mils wide SO packages.
